Schaduwvanger is anonymous-first. You don't need an account to play, and we try to know as little about you as possible.

On this website

This landing page loads no tracking pixels, no analytics, no third-party scripts. The only external request is to Google Fonts for the Inter typeface. After that the page no longer talks to anything.

TestFlight sign-up

If you leave your email address for a TestFlight invitation, we only store your email address. We use it for one purpose: to send you a TestFlight link when a spot is available. Your address is not shared, sold, or added to a mailing list.

Want your address removed? Email hello@schaduwvanger.app and we'll wipe it within a few days.

In the app

The app asks for no account and no personal data. On first launch a random identifier is created anonymously so we can attach your progress to you. We store: your submissions, scores, streak, and which shadows you've solved.

When you submit a photo to match a shape, the photo is sent to our server for processing and then stored on Hetzner Object Storage in Germany (within the EU). Photos are used in the next day's public shadow grid, visible to other players.

We only store your email address if you signed up for the TestFlight beta via this site. Beyond that, we don't ask.

What you share

Photos you submit become visible to other players in the next day's grid. By participating you agree to the following, restrained rules:

We can hide or remove submissions without warning if they don't meet these rules. See something that shouldn't be there? Email hello@schaduwvanger.app with a short description. We'll look within 24 hours. We're building a report button directly into the app soon.

How we moderate

Before a submitted photo appears in the next day's public grid, we automatically scan it with AWS Rekognition. That's an image recognition service that assigns labels such as "nudity", "violence", "hate symbols" or "drugs" with a probability score.

At sufficient confidence (60% or higher), the system automatically hides the photo and puts it in a review queue. A human looks at it within 24 hours and decides whether the photo may appear after all or should be permanently removed. The submitter still sees their own score; only the photo doesn't appear in the grid for others.

Photos are temporarily forwarded to AWS servers in Frankfurt (within the EU) during the scan. After that, they are stored only on Hetzner Object Storage in Germany.
